Artist Statement
Hank Hall
I love making teapots. Because of their numerous parts, they provide me with unlimited possibilities for experimentation and unending variations of form.
I start the body of the teapot with the manipulation of thrown parts. Just because it starts as a thrown symmetrical form doesn’t mean that it stays that way. The overwhelming urge to entertain myself with the creation of a new one-of-a-kind teapot keeps the creative juice flowing for me, and the experiences I had while studying under Marguerite Wildenhain drive me to make the best teapot I can.
My number one goal is satisfying my own esthetic sense of what makes for an entertaining, inventive, and personal teapot form. If others experience a creative kick, then I think that’s as good as it gets.
